Award Overview

The Tu Youyou Award is an international honor celebrating excellence in natural products chemistry and medicinal chemistry. Named after Nobel Laureate Tu Youyou, whose groundbreaking discovery of artemisinin has saved millions of lives, the biennial award recognizes and inspires scientists advancing research and innovation in these fields.

Monetary prize to be shared equally if there are multiple recipients.

Who May Be Nominated?

Scientists with outstanding achievements and contributions in the fields of natural products chemistry and medicinal chemistry.

Nominees must be individuals; team or group nominations are not permitted. Nominations apply only to the current award cycle and will not be carried over to subsequent cycles.

Who May Submit a Nomination?

The director of their host research institution or recognized scientists within the field.

Self-nominations will not be considered.

How to Nominate?

Nomination Materials

  • A biographical sketch;
  • A detailed description of contributions;
  • 5–10 representative academic publications;
  • A list of academic honors, awards and funded projects;
  • A nomination letter signed by two nominators.
