The Tu Youyou Award is a biennial international honor recognizing outstanding achievements in the fields of natural products chemistry and medicinal chemistry. It is named in honor of Nobel Laureate Tu Youyou, whose discovery of artemisinin has saved millions of lives.
The award is presented every two years. It generally opens for nominations officially in April of even-numbered years. The nomination period for the next Tu Youyou Award will open in April 2026.
Candidates should be scientists with outstanding achievements and contributions in the fields of natural products chemistry and medicinal chemistry.
Nominees should be the director of their host research institution or recognized scientists within the field. Self-nominations will not be considered.

Nominations can be submitted online via the official MDPI Tu Youyou Award page, following the guidelines provided on the "Nomination" page.
Nominations should be submitted by renowned scholars or heads of academic institutions or societies in the field.
Nominations close at 23:59 on 31 October 2026 (UTC-12).
All nominations are reviewed by a dedicated award committee composed of experts in relevant fields. The committee assesses candidates based on scientific impact, innovation, and contributions to the advancement of natural products chemistry and medicinal chemistry.
The ceremony details will be announced on the award’s official website after the winners have been selected.
